Cool, I appreciate it. My plan of action is going to be double dosing Flourish Excel (10 mg daily) for the next week. Any other suggestions?

Be careful double dosing Excel. I have read a lot of info that suggests sensative fish can't handle excel very well
I would also suggest some extra water changes as well

some plants can't handle it too... what plants do you have?

Reading a bit on the net seems to indicate that Vals are sensitive to Flourish Excel...lol...ok, so should I just go with extra water changes?

Was told probably due to high nitrites. Did a 25% water change and dosed with API CO2, TLC aquarium optimizer, and half dose of Flourish Excel.
Also, lol, found a new patch of what appears to be green dust on the rear of my tank. Doesn't actually look that bad, plus all I really have to do is leave it alone for three weeks and it'll take care of itself...so I've heard. I'll be interested to see the results.
