I've just registered and I like to introduce myself. I'm German, but I spend my time in Indonesia, when I'm not at sea for work. Over the past few months I've been frequently visiting this site and I already found some useful advice.

As I'm staying in a tropical country, I've kept my fish outside in ponds so far. I've got two fish ponds with a different set of fish. It's working very well, the fish are growing and breeding too. The ponds are low in maintenance, which is a good thing, as I'm often away for work for several months.

I've recently decided to have some fish inside the house too and I've set up a fish tank. It's quite challenging, as many of the items mentioned in different articles are not or not easily available (kits for measuring ammonium or nitrit/nitrate levels, brine shrimps....) Hoping to find some advice for alternatives.

Several weeks ago I've set up a 120 ltr tank with 6 pearl gouramis and 5 German rams. They are doing fine and there was no problems so far.

Cheers
Thomas

Hi! How soon after setting up the tank did you add the rams?

hi angel_love, I put them in two weeks after the set up, whereby I used filter mats, that had already been in use in one of the ponds and 50% of the water used came from the rice fields
