Checking tap water

I know I have to check my tap water when I put it in my new tank. What specifically do I have to check for? I live in an area that has soft water.

check for nitrates, phosphates and some places even have ammonia in their tap.

Any specific levels or should there not be any at all?

there shouldn't be any ammonia and very low to no nitrates and phosphates

Probably should check th PH also - some places can have very high or very low PH.

damn forgot that but i bet it's low due to soft water
