I have a hatchling painted turtle in my 15g tall along with 5 emerald cories and a juvenile bn pleco. The turtle is the terror of the tank, so I planted some milfoil to slow him down. Now he has taken to chomping down on the tops of all the plants. Fake plants slowed him down just as well, but I like the way live plants look, and I like the fact that they will remove some nitrates from the water. Is there anything I can get that an aquatic turtle won't eat?

I kept a Western Painted for years. As far as plants they wont touch....I don't know of any. Anything in the turtle tank is potential turtle food including your pleco! I don't know what you have for substrate, but small gravel can even be eaten by your little guy which can cause impaction. A 15 gallon is not big enough for your turtle. Because it is a tall tank make sure you have plenty of resting spots (plants, rocks) for him to stop at on his way to the surface.

+1 to gm72. Plastic ones are the best for turtles.

Well I'm glad I got them for free. I guess I will hold off on planting my tank until I can get the turtle into his own tank. Thanks for the replies everyone.
