Finding Foam?

Hey all,

You would think it'd be easy to find but... anyway, I wanted to set up a small sponge filter (DIY) and set out to get some foam rubber. Home Depot and Lowes.. even Walmart. The best they could do was take me over to their cleaning section and point me to the scrubpads and such. Most of those have chemicals in them.. and cost a fair bit.

Where would I find foam? And is it called something else ...? "Foam rubber" didn't seem to ring a bell with anyone I asked so I said "like a sponge"... and when I said "Aquarium filter" the immediate response was "Oh try the petstore we don't carry that"!

I am assuming that you need the rubber foam to act as sponge.

Why not buy an aquarium filter sponge and convert that to a sponge filter.

Example.
I used an aquaclear 50 course sponge that I cut to make a sponge prefilter for my XP3.
