View Full Version : How Much Time Do Fiddler Crabs Spend On Land?

I'm turning my 10g tank into a fiddler crab tank. I'm setting up a tropical resort/cabana theme and I was wondering how long they'd stay on dry land. I'm going to offer a small brackish "pool" outside one of the cabanas. That cabana is going to be accessible via a rope bridge. Do you think they'd be willing to spend quite a while up there if there was a small pool to soak in, a nice place to hide, and fresh food and water? Thanks.

Your 10 gallon must be a lot bigger than my 10 gallon. Not sure how you can do all that in such a small area but I'm anxious to see finished photos. Never had fiddlers so will also follow this thread with interest.

It's going to look really good. I've spent hours planning the layout. I hope there's enough water for them. I think the important thing is that their beach area is to their liking. I read they can spend months on land as long as the sand is nice and moist. I can't wait! I built the platform for their cabana out of popsicle sticks and super glued them together in a parquet design. Almost done building it. I'm building little pot "covers" also out of the popsicle sticks. I dug up a baby fern and some other little plant. I put them in two of the pots I got with my aquarium plants I got a couple of weeks ago. All those plants need are shade (I'll provide that through a lattice shade structure) and damp soil. I've been studying the art of bonsai so I should beagle to keep them small and healthy :) I'll keep you updated.

Oops, stupid iPad auto correct. I meant to say "be able", not beagle.

They spend most of their time on land foraging. They usually retreat to the water or into their holes to escape predators.

Thanks Aeon! I was worried I was going to have too much land.
