I honestly really don't want to know how much they will be when they are on the market. They should not even be on the market IMO.

Given that a danio is $2 if that and a glofish is $7 or more, I imagine a glo cichlid is going to be pricey.
LOL, Being over a year old - It qualifies as old news. . . . Just saying.
Personally, I agree with the above assessment of octo*puss.
YMMV :22:

I dont see anything wrong with them. They are certainly not worse than some of the deformed things we breed. "celestial" eye goldfish come to mind.

That is by far the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. I'm actually slightly enraged.
I think I could get there also Smokey, I know I couldn't look at them all the time.
Actually, I feel the same way about those goldfish too.

After thinking about it I see that doing things like this to fish is wrong and
people should just leave fish the way they are i mean theirs thousands of kinds of fish find the kind you like

I wouldn't buy them. I buy fish and take care of them for their rewarding beauty and pleasure taking care of them. The glowing cichlids wouldn't be rewarding for me.

Nor me, but I guess by glowing they'd help the other fish afraid of them know where they were. And stress them to no end with the odd green glow.
Also agreed on Celestial Eye Goldfish. First time I say one, I had to look away. Thought it was a horrible mutation.

I dont think the green glow is visible without a blacklight

And wouldn't you know, the owner probably would have a BL on 24/7? Just saying...

They're pretty hideous but at least they're not deformed and can swim properly. Not a fish for me, but really no different than GloFish. I'd much rather see that than a fish that has been tattooed or dyed.

I personally don't see a problem with this, lots of people genetically change fish as well as other animals all the time. This is not a fish I would ever want to own, but I could see why someone would.

+1 that tattooed stuff is awful and ridiculous. I want to slap people in the back of the head for pointing and saying " Aww how cute, that fish has little hearts on it" how the heck do they think those hearts got there? Morons.

Damn, but those are some ugly little freaks!! Hybrids are usually hideous, but these monstrosities take the cake!! Why is it always someone in the Far East that makes these abominations?:smack:

Because to them, bending the will of nature is the law of the land... Plus they know we will buy them.

Because they don't have the same view of animals as we do in our culture. The people over there also wear goldfish pendants (with LIVE fish inside) and eat cats and dogs. They think that animals are strictly for human enjoyment and have no feelings (pain or emotional) or rights (like to survive by their own nature).
I am NOT trying to advocate what they are doing-- just stating the facts. I find it quite disgusting myself.

I see nothing wrong with bioengineered animals such as this. Now, if they were dyed or tattooed that would be another matter. But with genetic modification, the fish is born that way. And it appears to cause no obvious defects that affect swimming, eating, etc. Nope, can't say I'm bothered in the slightest.
