Remember the neon tetra I told you people about that was not eating and it was acting a bit weird. Well, it died. It floated on the top.
Can you please tell me what caused it's death( I know it's not bullying ) from these descriptions?
- it's eyes are popped out. The eyes look like a piece of poop. SCARY
- It's colours are almost all faded. It just died a few hours ago, so it's probably not because it was dead a long time.
-It's stomach looks full.
-It's fins are broken a bit
- Was it struck by a plague? What happened? I don't want that to happen to the rest of the other fishes. So far, the rest look fine and healthy.

Is the neon stripe down the side quite bent, compared to before?

It looks all white now except for a few black spots.

Well, some of this sounds like Neon Tetra Disease (NTD), which is a disease only Neons get and for which there's no medicine or cure.
I lost my 6 in my 6g to it earlier this month. But mine didn't have anything happen to their eyes.
NTD can also encourgae secondary infections, but it sounds so quick.
Mine began to show odd symptoms and would go downhill over 24-36 hours.

Black spots?
Hmmmm...I'll let the others make a prognosis.

Sometimes fish just die. Dogs die, cats die, people die. Sometime we never know why and it doesn't mean there was a disease. I don't understand why it's eyes were popped out tho unless others were eating at him and that's not unusual.

If it's NTD, shouldn't the other 5 neons be acting weird, cause they are not. They are still really healthy.

Neon Tetra Disease will affect all your neon's and it's also known that other fish get this, as well. Like danio's. Losing a neon now and then is not unusual. They are very small and not very hardy, really. I lost one this week myself. Had him 8 months tho.

Read this about NTF. If you had fish feeding on this fish, they are probably infected now themselves.

I think hobbs is right if there were no previous symptoms.
After anything dies within a few hours it's going to blow and it's eyes are going to pop out. That isn't part of the disease it is just something that happens after a fish dies.

There is a bacterial infection that looks exactly like NTD - If another fish gets sick in the next day or so I would treat for that. If you are lucky and thats what it was you may wind up OK.
I don't remember your tank or stocking info so I am not sure how to be more specific

Wait...whats this curved spine thing. I have 4 neons one has been acting a little funky swimming with his whole body almost vertical. I also have one who I thought had sculiosis or something cause his spine is at abour a 30* angle misway down. Does that mean I could have a NTD issue? or is it just old age, they are all 4-5 months old. Please help LadyHobbs...now Im a little worried.

i'm no disease expert, but that sounds like dropsy/swim bladder to me. Not sure what to do about it but google should help you!

I've read that the curved spine is a symptom of fish tuberculois. I had two White Clouds that had that symptom and I euthanized them because I was pretty sure it was tuberculois and I wanted to protect my community. They were quite old too though.
I do not know the symptoms of NTD but I'm pretty sure you could find a good description of it in the articles section of this site.

Ditto on that, the article section is a great thing to refer to. Don't forget, aquarium salt is one of the best fixes ever, just don't over-do it.

I read the symptoms from the link that Hobbs gave, thats why I asked about the curved spine thing. Thats the only symptom he has though. The swimming funky thing is a different one.

Hmm, maybe just a fungus.

How do the scales look on the one that is swimming funky?
The curved spine can be a symptom of NTD - I have heard people say that it can also mean TB - in either case the fish should be euthanized as soon as possible. Don't touch it when you remove it from the tank.

Yes, clean the net as well. I would soak it in light LIGHT bleach solution and then in dechlorinated water.

The scales on him are normal, thats why i just thought it was his time. I will do as advised and remove the TB suspect when I get home. Should I remove the funky swimmer too?
