Hi! I have a 20 gallon tank with an undergravel filter and a regular filter.
I have gravel in tank now and I was wondering if you can mix sand in with the gravel .

You can mix sand and gravel in a tank, but not in a tank with an under gravel filter. The sand will clog up the UGF before you can blink!

I know exactly what your going through...lol I just got a tank for my betta that I had planned on putting sand in. But the tanks manufacturer apparently changed it from a in-tank to and under gravel filter. So I had to change my plans to gravel. I did read on a site that someones son wanted sand in their tank and the dad was a big fan of undergravel filters, so he took some see through material from a fabric store and glued it on to the plastic grate to hold the sand above it. Apparently it worked, but I don't want to risk killing my betta that way. lol

Sounds like a pretty good idea. I might try it out in another aquarium first, that way I dont put this one at risk. Thanks

Are you set with the UGF? If you look into canisters you can get the sand and not have to deal with the craft store.

Thats the Rena Filstar XP1 it would work well for your 20G and is decently cheap at $60 bucks

Sand is awesome as soon as you can, using a canister preferably but a HOB is fine.
