I finally finished my tank stand and got the 55 set up. So heres some pics and ive got a question that i can't seem to get a definite answer on. Can 9 Tiger Barbs and 24 Neon Tetras get along together in a tank?

Nice top! Granite?
Why was it covered in tape?

The 55 is the walmart tank kit, so it only has 30 watts of light, which i'll have to update, plus probably get new filter sometime. So thoughts and suggestions?
Oh yeah, the stand still needs doors, but i couldn't wait that long to get the tank set up.

AC 70, and a cannister if possible.

the top is formica, granite colored, the tape is the edge strips being glued on.

Very nice, that top really is eyecatching.
Only thing I don't like about tiger bards is there nipping and fighting behavior, beautful fish though, and going by your avater you obviously love them.
Just to throw an idea to you, have you considered black skirt tetra's instead of barbs.

Yes I have kept 4 tiger barbs and 10 neons in a 17gal.tank before with no problems.

yes, i saw the black skirts, and they are really nice, i'd love to have a couple of them, but i only have two tanks, and the barbs have precedent in this new tank
no idea what im doing for a background yet, i was going to try a black garbage bag and vasaline, i'll probably go pick the stuff up today

The best background is the spraypaint background (IMO). No tape, it never falls off, and you dont need vaseline.
I have a How-To in the DIY section.

the tanks already setup, so i wont be able to spray paint it, i'll just try the garbage bag, and if that sucks i'll just tape on a sheet of formica like i did witht he 29 gal.

I feel I have to defend the tiger barbs a little here, as I love them. They only nip fins if they are kept in too small schools. (and even then they don't always do it)
However 9 tiger barbs might be too few to keep them from nipping.

Interesting, What size school do you recommend to help stop the nipping?

yeah, what size do you recommend william? I read that too many could increase aggression just like too few could
