Gravel or Sand

Wich one it's better for the plants, gravel or sand? I got Elodea (anacharis) and something called hornwort (or something like that). I heard people talk about sand on the planted tanks. Does it make damage to some fish? If you have shrimps, the sand will be good for them too?

Which type of substrate you use will not affect those plant species at all. I would recommend gravel as it easier to manage as sand can become very dense and create problems that you don't have to worry about with gravel. Sand will considering the plants you keep not provide any additional benefits.

the hornwort will once it establish astonish you with its growth rate. it can grow 6-8 inches a day.
