Holy crap, but nerites are tough critters.

There's a single zebra nerite in our 2.5 tank. This evening, I looked in the tank, and couldn't find it. Took a look in the filter, not there either. Kept looking, and there it was on a lower ledge of the desk.

Picked it up, and the shell was super dry. Even had some lint stuck on the shell from the ledge ... which shows you how dry it was. No clue how long it had been there, and I'm not sure why, but I plopped it in the water changing bowl which happened to have some water still in it. Other things happened around the home, and I didn't get around to taking care of the bowl until at least 3 hours later.

Lo and behold, there Mr Snail was ... scooting around, feelers waving.

Nerites are notorious for leaving the tank. Probably want to raid the refrigerator...

That is what I am most concerned about with my little Tiger striped Nerite my daughter named Cinderella. Don't ask, I don't even understand tbh on it.

I've seen it close to the exits a number of times... Unfortunately with the design of mine, I would have to do a complete redo of the hood system to close it up, or hodge podge some chicken wire or screening in all holes. For now, just hoping it stays put, until I can afford a solution or newer, HUGER tank thumbs2:

Yup, lol.

I have occasionally found one from my 20 on the outside of the glass... Water always checks out good so he's just out for a cruise I guess.

I hope the ugly stepsisters keep Cinderella from cruising to the ball then. There's no prince charming out here, just big heavy feet and crazy children.

Luckily mine never actually leave tank. They get close and sit on top ledge of back, but never make that last 1/2" journey to be outside. Turn around and go back every time. But now i think of it i have had one that was on hood and i didnt notice one day when preparing for WC and when i put hood on floor and did change he crawled off hood and went exploring. My cat was swatting at him trying to investigate about an hour after i was done with everything. Warily i approached, expecting some giant bug... Nope, it was Tony the Tiger. He doesnt ever leave otherwise though. And now i always thoroughly scan for exact locations of snails before removing anything from tank or doing WCs.
