I walked past the 90 gallon reef tank today and I happened to see a snail sneaking past the red carpet anemone. As a read a lot of examples were these anemones (Stichodactyla haddoni ) would eat fish, snails, shrimp, or what ever animal would come in direct contact with their tentacles, I decided to watch for a minute.
Sure enough the snail got to close, brushed up against the tentacles, and the anemone ended up grabbing his shell. What happened next was really interesting. The anemone would pull the snail in a little closer by trying to close, and then the snail would get some traction and move ahead a little. This went on a few times before the snail worked loose from the anemone and crawled away.
I had my cell phone with me so I manage to take a few pics before the snail broke loose.
