arowana with black shark

Hello, im planning to buy a black shark and put it on my tank. Is it alright if i put my black shark and arowana in 1 tank. I also have redtail catfish on it.

my arowana is still 8"(2 mos old) and redtail catfish is 7"(1 1/2 mos old).

Personally, I would suggest up grading your tank now before you add any other fish. I would guess within a year from now your arowana will outgrow your 70 gallon tank

yes you are right. maybe i will upgrade my 70 gallon tank but it will take time. I still need to save and plan to buy 6x3x3 tank. :)

Start saving! lol Fish tend to grow much faster then most bank accounts.
I would not get anything else for that tank.

+1 to the advice above me. Don't get anymore fish for that tank.

Although I don't even think a 70 gallon is big enough for an Arowana. From what I've read, they need a minimum 200 gallon, maybe more and also need loads of filtration since they are predators.

thanks thanks for the replies. yes i am saving maybe i can buy a new tank in the next 15 days. Is 6x3x3 tank ok with arowana and redtail catfish? or any suggestion?

to keep a SA arowana for life comfortably, you're looking at 9'x3' footprint. red tail cats need even bigger. you may want to look into a plywood build or indoor pond. a 6'x'2 180g is good for a few years but will still end up being too small. my silver aro is 3' and still not done growing. both of your fish max out around 4'.

be carefull because a redtail cat can swallow an arowana who is same size

Most do not keep rtc's because they cannot keep them past a certain size.
What are your plans for the fish when it gets too big for your tank?
Real big fish are also expensive to feed properly.
They fall under the title "Tank Busters" for very good reason.A pond in the right climate will work well.

@Crispy - ahh so 6x3 is only good for a year? so I should buy directly a 9x3 tank? hmm I think i should build an indoor pond. i think it's better right? I still need to find a good space for 9x3 :/ RTC are really fast growing fish right? OMG


@Northernguy - actually I have in my 70g tank is 1 jardini, 1 rtc, 1 china hifin and 1 albino bichir. I want to put a black shark too and gars. Is it alright if I put a black shark in it?

A pond is a good idea, they are cheaper and you have many filtration options. Just make sure that you put some sort of mesh barrier around the sides. Arowanas will and do jump.

yes it is cheaper. but what's the best filtration for ponds? I will put a cover on my pond because arowana will do jump.
