So, I am about to go out of town, and on one hand my discovery this morning was very disconcerting. On the other hand, I am really glad I made the discovery before going out of town!
What did I discover, you might ask:

Well thats no good now is it. A crack and its leaking a bit to boot! I guess I have my work cut out for the morning.
I run out to the store and grab another 10 gallon tank. Thankfully they are cheep. I get home and start uprooting plants:

Next is the ardous task of transfering the substrate. All 20 lbs of eco complete:

Murkey down there, but the guppies don't seem to mind:

The glass makes a better mirror than window at this point!

Mission accomplished! (knock on wood...remember what happened when our president said that)

Hahaha, the only thing guppies care about is food and making babies.
Glad you caught the crack before it leaked more. Any idea what caused it?

Well, before I knew much about fishkeeping, I kept the tank at a fairly severe angle (enough to cause a 1" difference in watter height from one side to another). Also transported it improperly a few times (ie with water and under some pressure). Both probably contributed to a weakness that eventually gave. Other than that, it was an AllGlass aquarium with the bottom flush to the sides instead of raised above a bit. I am not sure that I trust that design, but it definately should have been on some padding :/.

Good thing that you caught it. keep us updated on the progress of the tank it looks like it will turn out nice once everything settles.

You are lucky! Not lucky to have a leak but very lucky you saw it before leaving. Possibly you can repair it and let it set up to dry really well while you're gone?

Having just drained and moved a tank and fish, I can sympathize with what a pain that was! Just what you needed right before a trip...I'm glad to hear you got it all back together without any huge water mess.
:c5: Hope you have a good trip.

yeah zackish, thats what I did. I am thinking maybe I could use it for a reptile of some sort or something interesting. Or maybe just a shooting target.

If the bottom is tempered, it will make a pretty sweet spectacle.
A guy we know did some remodeling on his hardware store, and they took off the front doors and put in new ones. The old ones were tempered glass, so we took them out to the range. Its pretty awesome.
Is there a possibility of sealing the crack for use for a hospital/grow out tank?

Could you please explain the difference to me between tempered and regular glass?
Lucky guppies! Glad you caught it before it broke right through.

Yeah, me too!

Tempered glass has been heat treated so that it will be more resistant to breaking and high temperatues (like an oven). When it shatters it breaks into a bunch of tiny pieces.

Its actually heated, and then cooled very quickly several times over. its the same effect when strengthening steel.
