So, for the past 2 weeks one of my Zebra Danio has been getting a big belly... last night I went to feed my fish and noticed that its belly is no longer looking like a prego belly.... :19: ..... I can't find any fry though:smad:
Whats the best way to spot the fry?
If I want to keep them should I pull them out as soon as I would be able to? :4:
What is a "usual" fry diet? (I don't have live plants.)

Patience or a microscope. Honestly you just have to keep watch. Your biggest problem is that Zebra fish are egg layers and scatter them around the bottom. Provided that they are fertalized you will need to wait 20 to 24 hours before any hatch. Of course there is the chance that the female dumped the eggs without them being fertalized.

If you want a good number to survive you will pull them out. See above

Not entirely sure here so, but I believe that you can feed them daphnia, or egg whites, but don't take my word for it. Wait for someone who has more experience with Fry.

Danios usually eat their eggs immediately after spawning and if you have other fish in thw tank it is almost certain that they have been eaten already or will be eaten once they've spawned.

yep I have some Endlers Live-bearers, frogs, and Oto cats...
other then that I believe I have 3 male one female, either way it's only a 10g and I don't have my 29g up yet so oh well, if they do get eaten. If not I'll have to kick start my 29 with some gravel and filter media

Awe good luck with everything :) As for fry diet, they sell a liquid food for them at petsmart...so i'm sure you would be able to find some at your LFS.
Keep us posted! :)

Egg whites????? I thought it was the egg yokes that we used????
Which is it? Oh....and should that mixture (wichever it is) be refridgerated to keep it from spoiling?
Sorry...but I didnt mean to hijack this thread.
Thanks,
Tom

I think its was egg yolks?
It is egg yolks. No mixture needed, just keep the yolk in a small refrigerated container and pinch off a small amount and rub your fingers together in the water to dissolve the yolk.
I feed my fry yolk exclusively until they are large enough for my home made young fish food... basically i take some algae wafers, shrimp pellets, and some vitamin enriched flakes, put them in a coffee grinder until it is a very find powder, and presto, balanced nutritious food for fish that are too big for yolk, but too small for micro pellets. This can be kept in an old food container you used up already and does not need to be refrigerated.
Tres, great ideas.
Unfortunately, it is very likely that all of the dannio eggs have been consumed. I'll hope thought that I'm wrong!
