Okay, so I am looking forward to my planted 5g tank. It is an eclipse corner 5 system with a twist (will be revealed later :P). Anyhow, I would really like a school of fish but the tank doesn't provide much swimming room. Its a corner bowfront and most of the volume is in the height, it's 15" at its widest and 9" at its deepest.

I was thinking about harlequin rasboras, but they will probably be too big. There is the dwarf spotted rasbora, but I would like some other options. I am looking for schooling fish under 1 inch in size. Since I don't know aobut local availablity, it would also be nice if someone knew where I could find something like this online.

Neons, black or regular. I like glowlight tetras and I think they would do fine. Not much of a choice for that, maybe a beta?

I would think cardinals would be cool. If not some cherry or crystal shrimp would be cool too!

Cherry shrimp are tinny and really cool but you don't really need fish with them because they are excellent food for them, believe me, back when I was dumbER, I put 2 dozen in my 55 with angels and everything, 7 made it to the bottom.

I was saying either fish or shrimp.

Here's a good link to check out for nano fish:

Frank's Aquarium ([Only Registered Users Can See Links.])

Celesterial Pearl Danios (CPDs, formally galaxy rasboras) are also a good small fish, as that's currently what we have living with our shrimp. When we initially got them we kept them in a 5g tank, and it was fine. Here is a picture of one of our male CPDs:

The other thing you might want to check out are Endler's livebearers, but I would do all males, as they tend to breed like rabbits. Here's an image of a male Endler (females are all grey):

Cardinals can grow to 1 1/2 inches, provided the right environment. Same with danios, neons... your choices are limited.

I cant think of anything you could put in the tank that would school, yet stay small without stunted growth due to tank size....

if you don't care about stunted growth then go with what pleases you... they will stop growing when they reach critical mass for the tank.

We are having this same discussion over in the Technical thread.

See the comments in [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

I reckon a permanent article or sticky about stocking 5-6g tanks is needed...
