So I just got a 55 gallon tank. So how should I stock it to be really beautiful. I'm planning on freshwater. Mostly small fishes around 2 to 8 inches of fishes. some bigger fishes around 8 to 15 inches. So now, how should I stock it smartly.
Here are some of my ideas: 10 or 15 neons or cardinals, 1 common pleco, 1 red tailed shark, 4 or 6 rummy nose tetras, maybe 1 male betta, and I don't know what else. This is not what I will get, it's just an opinion.
Are some of those african drawf frogs that don't need land ok. And how about some salamanders?
P.S- I don't like gouramis, so it's not an option. No angels.
My brain froze so give me some ideas.

What is the filtration like?

Don't worry about that. It's fine for a 55 gallon. And there lots of plants and two caves. Just help me with the stocking. Thanks anyways.

Your own personal preference of what you like. I enjoy angels because they can become incredibly tame.

Stocking depends HIGHLY on your filtration (not to mention water parameters and waterchange frequency/amount). So, in order for us to help you, we will need to know what filtration you are running.

True. I run a 350 penguin along with a 250 pennplax on mine and it keeps it really nice.

But I don't think I know what filteration means. I just know that the filter is for a 55 gallon tank, cause that's what the people at the pet store told me. So i'm sorry about that.

What is the filter called? There should be some sort of brand or number on it.
Also, does it hang on the back of the tank, or is it a different kind?

What is the brand and model on the box?
Does it hang on the edge of the tank, go inside tank, or a cannister?

Most fish stores will lie, sorry but they will. What is the filter you have on the tank? Name and model would be nice. Divide the filtration it can do in half and that is about what it can do.

It does say 55. I think it was called aqua clear or something like that. I threw all the packaging away after I set up my tank.

So since I'm not sure about it, just pretend it was a perfect filter for a 55 g. Just help me on the stocking.

It should say on the filter itself. Don't throw away the box!!! it may have a warranty or sumtin!!! Get another filter on it like that and you should be fine. That is good for about a 30 gallon. Got to worry more about it than stock by far, sorry but it's true.

Oh ya, and it hangs outside the tank with a tube that sucks water out then after the water is filtered, the water pours back down like a water fall back in the tank.

It is a regular HOB filer. You need two of that size. My 350 Penguin is for up to 75 gallon it says but I look at it as if it is for a 40 so I added a rated at 50 gallon filer to make it go out at about 60. Zebras are fine but get good filtration!!!! That is a must before any fish!!! Ugh, I am getting a head ache, DRU, HELP ME!!!!

I also have this second hand tank from a chinese guy. It's not a 10 gallon for sure. Maybe it's a 20 gallon. It doesn't have a canopy or a filter, or any other stuff except a light. Should I go buy a new filter and everything or should I just leave it.

Here. Look up fish you like and see what goes with it.
