So I got a great price on my discus, wanted to get your opinion's of them. I set up and cycled with a seasoned hob and 2 sponge 55gal filters with media seeded. I have 6 'Royal' Blue Discus in it alone all at the 2.5in mark. They are eating out of my hand and show no fear when I approach the tank. The tank stats are 0 0 5, ph 7.2, temp 86, 44gal. I do 3x weekly water changes of 30% and have been adding stability in with prime. I also add a few drops of prime a day to help with the overstocking. Please let me know if you see anything wrong or something that needs to be stepped up. Remember that this is for the discus to grow up in as there will be a 100gal in their future and if I get a pair in this 6 I will be letting the pair stay in the tank alone.

The discus look dark in the pictures but that is because of the low light and the tannins in the water from the driftwood. Oh also, I found some dried blood worms from Hikari, the discus go MAD for them. I figure this would cause less chance for disease as well considering there is no water to have them frozen in. Please correct me if im wrong.
Seems like an excellent grow-out tank to me. I suppose you'll just have to watch to see how fast they grow and make sure you move them before then run out of swimming room.

Looks good but in just a few short months they will out grow that small tank. Your temp and water changes are excellent. Remember to feed five to six times a day but not all they can eat - I can't ever recall be able to fill a discus! Hope you have a clean up crew so the tank stays clean. Good luck! :hmm3grin2orange:

Thanks you two. I am hoping they grow that fast... then I have a reason for my fiance to let me set up another tank!!! thumbs2: thumbs2: I have someone at home that is power feeding for me. a pinch at a time is what they are fed. I also have a tank full of Honduran Red Point babies that are just at the 1/4in mark that are getting power fed. Love this hobby :-).
On a cuc, what would you suggest? RCS?
You could try. I'd try a couple of small plecs...

there are few things I would put in that temp... My oto's in my 55 love it at 82-83... i may try them but its not a cuc. RCS have done well for me in 82 as well. Also the tank, even though the filters are seasoned are still young... Plecs are poop machines and i dont wanna put that in there with discus
