View Full Version : Setting up a planted tank for fry
Hi,
I have a 10 gallon tank that I am thinking of setting up for fry. I have platy and long-fin danio fry that I am keeping in a breeder net at the moment.
I would like to set it up with natural plants (My 20 gallon high tank only has plastic plants) . Any pointers / links for plants and fry would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ami
I've had success with java moss, anubius, and java fern. They can survive on very little light and very easy to care for.

I would stick with low maintance plants and java moss it great for fry too.
Could you please give me some names of other low maintenence plants? I am thinking of putting some into my current 20 gallon tank.
Also, is aquarium gravel OK, or will I need to put a lyer of soil underneath the gravel?

For fry, I would simply set up a bare bottom tank with a sponge filter and stick some java moss in it for hiding spaces. Fry tanks need to be constantly cleaned with water changes so try it keep it easy as possible.

Fry tanks don't need gravel or anything and then just throw in some java moss and your good. Do frequent wcs too.
