I just bought this tank and I'm trying to decide what filter(s) to use on it. It came with the 20-40 Whisper filter that was the stock filter but I have a AC50 that I was planning to use on it.

Does a 20g long need 2 filters or would the AC50 work well enough for it? If just the AC 50 should I mount it in the center of the tank to minimize dead space?

If I only run the AC 50 on the 20g then I can use the Whisper on the 10g that I'm planning to keep up as a hospital tank for a while.

On my 20g longs I always use two small filters. Depending on my plans for the tank will tell me if I want HOB's or spong filters. I would use both filters and if you need you can take the Whisper and put it on the 10g when and if you need to. This way the Whisper will be well seeded. You may even want to consider and small sponge filter as a third filter, this way if you need the remove one you still have two running. IMO you can never have too much fitration.

The AquaClear 50 should be great on the 20. And the Whisper 40 will work very well on the 10. What fish are you planning to put in the 20?

I agree with Fishguy on his filter choice. You can always slide the filter to the other end now and then if you think it needs it.

Planning on moving my current community (see sig) and adding maybe Harlequin Rasboras and maybe a few more corys

The best thing may to have the Whisper on the 20 until it is needed on the hospital/quarantine tank. This way it is always fully cycled, and if it is going to be running on a tank it might as well run on one with fish in it.

Opps, I forgot to say...I was thinking of leaving the catfish in the 10g for a while until the 20g gets some algae growth.

You could add him now, you would just need to feed him and make sure he is fat and happy.

Long tanks usually need dual filters. I found with my 40 gallon long tank I had a huge dead area with just one AC70, added a second. The 20 longs are significantly smaller though, so you might be okay.
