I have a 55 gallon aquarium with only male fancy guppies in it. I bought 5 and then before the pet shop got their stock of guppies in, my friends bought me 25 more different strains of males. I don't want to continually be having guppy fry so I asked online and read that the best way to control breeding is to seperate the males and females and only choose the male and female I want to breed. Then I'm supposed to put them in an isolated tank for few days to mate. My question is whether or not there is really a albino female that is able to be bred with any male and the results would be males the same as him and females like her. That was stated online and it would be the perfect answer for me. I cannot afford another 55 gallon tank and I really don't have the room. One site called the guppy an albino gold and one site called it a blonde. If both are wrong, do any of you know of a female guppy that I can buy and breed with any of my males when I do want more fry? I have a 10 gallon tank with a half black and gold sunrise so far . I don't know that much about breeding guppies and I'm learning as I can from the computer websites.

i think that you would get a mix between the female and the male i think it would be very rare if something like that would happen...
it would be very cool if it was possible
think about it this way.... a blond woman ( a natural blond ) and a brown haired guy have a child if they have a girl it does not mean that she will have natural blond hair and if it is a boy it does not mean that it will have hair like his dads..
i am not sure but this is what i think this is my theory :22:

On line I found this web page that is quite useful, I can't vouch for any of the info, but here's the site, [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]. I also looked up on youtube- and surprisingly there are quite a few videos/ power points about it. I hope this helps till the experts chime in.

You would have to selectively breed them over a long time to get a male and female to pop out a blonde all the time. but i would recommend that you quarintine the females you want to breed with for as long as it take for them to stop having babies(culd be 3 monthes cause they can hold sperm for quit some time) then when they are done place the male you wish to breed with the females then wait until you see that all females are pregant then remove the male and let them birth in the tank a few times and remove fry if you don't want to risk canablism. then a male can be put back in. Then began culling undisired fry and seperating male and female if you want.
Things you will need to do this the way I said:
Current 55 for random guppies
10 gallon for breeding and birthing
10 gallon for fry
and if you wanted to you could have another small tank to keep females you want to breed until they are ready to breed.
other things to keep in mine:
Females store sperm for about 3 spawns
They breed like mad and will do so in the 55 too.
another thing to do would be to sepperate the 55 into males and females. the you will just need to put the selected coulpes in the breeding tank without wait for them to loss all the sperm they stored. and then once you sex them in the fry tank you just place them on the side they belong in.
Just what I would do if i got more serious about it.

+1 to what Spidy's post said. Selective breeding is the way to go about it. Also do remember that it has a lot to do with the fish's genetic details and if some of the genes are more dominant or recessive than the others. Some traits may appear more than the others so is really hard to be sure that all the females take on one look/colour and all the males with the same look/colour.
