Hello, and here are the pics. While I did start to encourage them, I really thought these newbies would need both more time and trys (lots) to get this far. While I seriously doubt they will get very far with the brood, I'll let them try so as to learn. I'd rather have experienced parents and that can only be done one way ... I hope.

Here is a view of most the tank with each parent keeping another discus in its place. I'll get a seperator for now and deal with a new tank only if the eggs hatch (not holding my breath yet.)

Noticed the female is still making more passes on the cone and the male quickly follows. I guess I'll also add a night light so they don't get too nervious and eat the eggs. The tank is in the main living room so they will have to continue. I guess the experts are right on breeding conditions since these are tank breed and are following instincts.
The corys and other discus are staying away. I leave soon to get the seperator - there is no way I'd ever catch the cories without really stressing the parents. :shappy:

Watching the fry grow is always rewarding. Keep up those water changes now more than ever. I have 5 week old red snakeskin discus fry, I left the light on in the room 24/7 for a while, was worried about the adults eating the eggs too:p

The separator failed big time - discus are strong fish and aren't discouraged by a few failures to swim through it!:ssuprised:
Decided to remove the other two discuses until I can get another tank ready for them (their now in with the other discus tank and nobody is happy with that arrangement right now - not a good solution but will have to do until late tomorrow.) :14:
The parents weren't too stressed and I gave them brine shrimp to distract them and some blood worms (frozen and processed for purity) to stuff them for the night.
I’ll do a large WC soon and add the night light. Hopefully, they'll make it through the night but again, young and inexperienced parents can really change their behavior for little reason so I’ll keep my expectations low.

Caught all the cories (six) :ssuprised: and wasn't as hard as I thought even through they had a few too many plants and wood to hide by :ssuprised: (along with some plumbing!) Still, I am less worried for the eggs now assuming the parents agree. I'll have a good idea tomorrow and hopefully, the eggs remain golden.thumbs2:
A night light is running, the water has been changed (I also bumped up the tank temp two degrees to get away from the breeding temp) and the parents are once more standing guard ... . Night everyone.:11:

Eggs are doing well as of this morning - still all golden (color) and both parents are standing (hovering?) guard. Hopefully, someone remembers to feed them this morning (unlike the other time when the male did eat the eggs... .) :11:

Well, they failed - last night one or both eat the eggs. As the saying goes, don't count your discus before they hatch! Still, they are new at this and may learn - they did do (both) an excellent job for three days. I guess I'll wait a week and maybe try cycling the tank's temp to see if they'll spawn again. Still, fun while it lasted :11:
