I told you guys my Firebelly toads dies so naturaly I have a empty 10g and of course I want to fill it.

I was wondering are there and Loaches good for a 10G?

never had one and want to try one.

Are there any Loaches that go good with a Betta?

definitely kuhli loaches. 5 of them will be entertaining. mine in my 55g got un-shy within a few days and go head first for food

1you suggest them, but are they good for a 10g?

yep, theyre really small, sleek, and get into the smallest nooks and crannies. 5 in a 10g is good. they literally bury under rocks and look for food

Thanks. I am only looking for one Loach and also adding other fish.

How are they with a betta?

I'd say you need a group...at least 3-5...and because of that you need at least a 20g...

There are more than one species commonly called 'Kuhli Loach' and some are bigger than the others...

it really should work fine. the loaches are very peaceful, and stick to the bottom 99% of the time. even if the betta is grumpy it wont be able to catch the loaches. the loaches are max 3" i believe

How about Lohachata Botia Loach? I am looking for same Loaches that look like Fish not Snakes?

Anyother suggestions?

What else would you add to a 10G besides a 3" Loach and Betta? What Else that would not over stock.

Loaches really are a schooling fish of sorts...they don't do well on their own...

Own their own they're also much more likely to hide and you'll end up never seeing him...

I beat this is a bad stocking list, but here is goes

2 Honey Dwarf Gouramis
3 Red eye Tetras
1 Betta

Bettas are odd animals. Their temperament varies widely within the species. Some bettas might be fine with that stocking option, but I am going to anticipate that it would be disastrous. The gouramis and betta would fight, I think. Of course however, that is why I prefaced these comments with a statement about their temperament. I wouldn't try that. How about a school of corys and a male betta? I think that would work quite well.

Not more Cory's I have way to many now.

Okay, well nix that suggestion then. Like I said, bettas are an odd bunch. I would definitely recommend bottom dwellers. What about a small specimen pleco?

I second this. I know that some people have male bettas in a community but I would be willing to bet no one has a betta in 10g community. You never know what kind of betta you're gonna get so if you decide to try one out in a community you might want to have a backup plan in case it doesn't work out - by that I mean another tank to put betta in if he turns out to be one of those that is a loner.

Also, I really think a betta and gouramis is a dangerous mix. If you're gonna have a betta in a community probably some small, peaceful fish would work out best.

Can't a betta live in a 1 Gallon bowl perfectly without a filter? Why don't I just do that and do weekly water changes.

Then I can get what ever I want in the 10g.

My niece has a betta that lives in a unfiltered bowl type thing. They can survive but they don't really look like their enjoying life too much. They really thrive in a bigger filtered, heated tank. Why not just skip the betta?

I just don't know why. I can't get over the Betta. I can forget every other thing in the tank, but not the Betta. I don't get it I never owned a Betta before or wanted one.

Terrible post. Let's do the math. A 1 gallon bowl with no filter. The fish has how much room to move around? Would you like to live permanently in a room that is roughly 2 or 3 times your height? NEVER able to leave that space? Bad call, man.

I thought Bettas could live in anything. they are sold in the store in a cup. Aren't there people that have Bettas in a 5g and say it is Betta Heaven.

Dont forget the fact that the toilet flushes only once a week.

If you havent done a planted tank yet, why not just skip the betta all together, and plant it with a school of cardinals?

I have 3 tanks with plants.

My 20g Frog tank is Heavily Planted. 3 Anachoris plants, 1 Java Fern, 1 Banana plant, 1 Large Amazon Sword, 1 Wistarea, 1 Purple Ludwigia, 1 Green Ludwigia, 1 Money Worth, 3 Dwarf HairGrass 1 Micro Sag and 1 Floating Plant that I planted.

10G 2 Small Amazon Swords and 4 Fake Dwarf Hairgrass

38G 6 Banana Plants and 6 Fake Dwarf Hairgrass

29G is heavily planted, but with fake plants and my 20G Crayfish tank has no plants only a large rock.

They are sold in a cup in the store because it's a short-term holding container for them! It's not meant as the ideal condition for the lifespan of the fish...which can be up to 9 years.

Prisoners can survive solitary confinement in an 6X9 cell...that doesn't mean that's the life you should aspire to!

Stores also sell most of their stock from horribly overcrowded containers! Store tanks/pens/cages are never an example of ideal conditions! They are merely short-term life-support!

Rue is right. I have a betta in a 5.5 gallon tank and he is very happy and healthy. Have you thought about getting one of the small all-in-one tanks, like a 2.5 gallon? Add a little heater and a betta and you'd be in great shape. They are only about $35 or so.

Ok I will forget the Betta. How does 5 Harlequin Rasbora sound in a 10 Gallon or can I add more?

Rue
07-23-2007, 08:53 PM
Yes...you can do that...

amanda_

That many fish in such a small tank is not a good idea. In my opinion a 10 gallon is pretty much useless for a community tank unless you are housing guppies or platies.

amanda_

the rasboras would be ok

5 sounds ok or can I add more Rasboras?

Rue

I'd stick with 5.
