Hello, I am angel. My husband and I have had our cichlid tank for about 6 months now. We have noticed a lot of differences in our tanks.
I have noticed that our victorian has been very territorial and has been "locking lips" with two other types of cichlids in the tank. The two that it has been "locking lips' with are showing signs of nesting. They are all still eating. How can I tell which one is the female and which one is the male? Also, are victorians mouthbrooders??? what about a rusty? I am new to this so please excuse my wording or lack of knowledge. I am learning.
any advice? Is it okay for them to crossbreed? What steps should I take from here? HELP please.

Liplocking is usually a dominance/fighting behavior, not an indication of spawning. Most Victorian and Malawi cichlids are mouthbrooders, but I doubt you'll have crossbreeding between such widely different species.
How big is the tank, which species (and how many of each) do you have in it, and how is it set up/furnished?
