I have had this fish for a few months now, I bought it from Petsmart when it was pretty small, and it has never developed color. It is very active and always hungry. Is there something wrong with it or is it just a female? The store said it had males, but could it be a mistake?

Could be female, hard to tell. It could also be a lesser male and now that it's alone it could colour up. I'd wait and see. Unless you are going breed them, it doesn't make much difference.

Looks like a female. The male would have a more pointed dorsal fin. What type of Dwarf Gourami? If it is a Neon Blue it would have a lot more color. (My LFS only carries the males). (I personally prefer the Opalines, they are beautiful and friendly with all my other fish).

It is a Neon Blue. The larger ones in that pet store where I got it from did have the bright coloration. I have had it since March and thought it would display the colors by now which is why I am questioning it's gender.

I think it's a female.

The fish in question has still not become any more colorful, only a little larger, so I believe it is a female. I recently bought a colorful male and can see the difference in color and fin structure. Petsmart must have made a mistake and mixed in females.
