Welcome fellow insomniacs. We are in the business of eating your ZZZZZZZs! No snoozing allowed and please remember to bathe.:ezpi_wink1:

this thread is for wasting time after hours. if there is not enough content in here to warrent the space it requires, feel free to lock/delete it. I am not really sure how acceptable pointless drivel is on this board, but I'll give it a shot.

There's so much joy in life,
so many pleasures all around
But the pleasure of insomnia
is one I've never found
With all life has to offer,
there's so much to be enjoyed
But the pleasures of insomnia
are ones I can't avoid

Mine would improve with a beer.

Zerileous
07-23-2007, 06:44 AM
:(, that traz can be nasty stuff hobbs, but enjoy your brew.

lol drummachine, ill only pay if you have the jack :P (its not illegal on the internets)

just moved to a new place (well, just started moving to be more accurate lol. But the big stuff has been taken care of). The animals (cat and dog) are very confused. The fish stayed behind (the new water supply has 8.8 pH and .50 ppm ammonia). not sure what to do about that but I sure as hell cant drop the tanks to 40%, move em, and fill em back up! Ill have to play chemist this week and see how half and half RO/DI does with some prime, and then boost kH with baking soda to see if i can get something workable. Ideally <= 8 pH, >= 3 kH, 0 ppm ammonia. I might just try adapting them slowly at water changes, but I think corydras woud have alot of trouble handling 8.8 pH. The 10 gallon isnt a big deal because the low kH means that the carbonic acid from my CO2 will lower the pH into a more healthy range (i just need to add enough buffering to prevent massive swings between day and night).

Thankfully there is no rush because the house won't go ont he market for a while.

What a hassle you don't need. Why not run some peat thru the filters?

I love Traz. Been on it 7 years or would never sleep.

Which I am way past right now!

Zerileous
07-23-2007, 06:54 AM
Thats a good idea, but it might be hard to run peat in an eclipse filter. Its pretty much just room for the cartridge and the biowheel. On second thought, I could try to find a Hagen foam pad that fits in one half of the filter and run peat in the other, ditching the eclipse cartridge all togather.

Peat might be a very good idea for the 10 gallon if CO2 doesn't seem to do enough. It would fit perfectly in the AC 30. I don't have any experience with peat filtration, so how does one get the peat? I am sure you don't just take a shovel down to your local bog lol. Is there some packaged for aquariums and would it be available at a chain/LFS or would I need to look online?

Peat comes in small pellets sold at some fish stores. You add it to a filter bag.

You can also buy peat but from what I've read it can be a mess to process it but frankly, since it's going into a bag what needs to be done? As long as the bag is filtering out the loose pieces I see no reason to go thru that soaking and aerating, etc.

You can get peat from the woods yourself. Claimed to be better than what you buy since we really don't know what's in the purchased stuff. Dig it yourself and you know it's dirt, branches, leaves that have rotted.

Use a small amount and test after a few days to see if more is needed.

Another product is Black Water Extract (plus others that work the same) which is a liquid made with peat. You just add a few capfuls to your water changes but I think that could get expensive.

Peat will give your tank a tannish look like you get from new wood but I love the look. It looks like an Amazon tank and a lot of fish like that. Kinda eery and sexy looking.

I will check more into processing of peat and get back with you.

I went to a few pet stores today but found no peat :(. Do I need to go to a garden store? and would Peat Moss do anything?

Incredulous_Ed
07-23-2007, 11:37 PM
You can use pure peatmoss if it is only spagnum peat moss, and nothing else.

Man, I git to go teach tae kwon do to a bunch of little kids. It normally fun, but have the worst headache of all time. That tylenol had better kick in very soon. lol

I always liked excedrin migrane.

sometimes I wish I still did tae kwon do, or at least some martial art. I really want to get back into brazilian jiu-jitsu next semester, but its very intense, which can be discouraging.

If not BJJ, then do some form of wrestling, like grecco.

It keeps you healthy, active, and if you do it long enough, youll get ripped.

lol thats the plan, but getting the motivation is another thing entirely. I guess even making it once a week is better than nothing though.

Anyone here read the series of unfortuante event books? just a random question, I'm allowed to do that in this thread, right?

I was walking along a winding pool side that was very slippery from my beer that I spilled because I was imagining that there [were] snails on my feet, ankles and legs! So I decided to go to the beach and get some sand to put in a big bucket. Then I will walk to the Sand Castle that had been destroyed. I was Furious, but went sailing and it was after the shark tried to bite me that I had had enough. I immediately knew sailing was not a fun sport and was not for me. I swam to shore quickily before the Coast Guard could arrest me for swimming with no liscence. They said if I ever return to the ocean thenn I must have a liscence or I will be fined. I said thanks and never plan to go back. Now I am on a misson to get a really big cactus that eats people. When I found a big cave with a bear that seemed very hungry with Cubs tickets for tonight. As soon as I seen her with too many berries in her mouth, I screamed then she saw Afonso Soriano hit a G sharp in the head. As he recovered with much bewilderment he saw Martians dancing to the Sound of Music. Just then a deranged Yankees fan...
