Apons in a pond in New England?

Can apons survive in a pond over New England winters?

I know that hearty lilies can survive and I really like the look of apons and was hoping they would survive as well.

While Apons make fantastic aquarium plants, they will not survive the winter in New England. Probably the only way you would have a chance is to grow it in a pot in a large well lighted aquarium indoors in the winter and move it to the pond during the warmth of summer. Transplanting bare root often triggers dormancy at which time the leaves die for a couple of months.
The other problem is that the leaves are very tender and subject to being shredded by larger fish. Plecos in an aquarium tear them up with rapid swimming and goldfish consider them suitable for fine dining.

Ditto the fragility of apons. I kept them for quite awhile but between the current in my tank and the bigger fish,they always looked rough.
