Two of my blue acaras have gotten together and now i see eggs on my driftwood in my tank. They are takling turns protecting the area. What should i expect ? I don't have any interest in separating them and putting this in different tanks etc.. What will come of all this? Some will hatch, most will die? Interesting stuff...Can someone give me a heads up on what to expect? thanks in advance.

My acara had a clutch hatch once. They protected them best they could but the other fish in the tank ate there babies.

When my acaras had spawn, the were very good at defending the eggs and fry against the other fish in the tank. It was to the point I had to remove all of the other fish out of the tank for their own safety.

Just keep an eye open for that

i'll destroy what they built if i see they do damage to my other fish. as for these fish eventually hatching if ever, my slant nose gar will eat them up before they know it! i had a few tetras in my tank, but they became short work for him.

Oh well, so much for that! This morning I found my ancistrus place on the driftwood , nothing left on the wood. I guess he cleaned out the area pretty well! Anyhow ...it was probably for the better

Dont worry, if I know anything about cichlids I know threy will try again and probably be a bit more careful.

+1 to the above

Once my blue acaras started spawning, there would be a new batch of eggs every 3 to 4 weeks. I had to move one of them into a different tank as I could not keep up with all the fry
