Hi Thizzviet, could you supply some more info or your tank and occupants?
Also, what type of Gourami do you have?
Please give us:
Tank size
How long has it been running
Water specs; pH, temp, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia
Tank mates
What do you feed your Gourami
Thank you

Good, thank you. Have you had the Gourami long? I would suspect the Gourami is bound up. Gouramis and Bettas have very long, windy intestinal tracks and you need to be careful with feeding them. Is he fat? If he is still eating try taking some frozen Peas, boil some water, after the water is boiling take is off the burner and add some Peas. After a few minutes you can cool the Peas under cold water, peel the outer skins, mush the Peas and feed. The Tetras may eat them too, that's okay. The Peas should clean out the Gourami. I would lay off the Bloodworms with the Gourami and if you do freeze dried foods always presoak the food.
Another option would be to get frozen Daphnia, it also clears out the fish, like a laxitive.

Very well done, Spyder. We need more well-informed responses like this one. :19:

Don't add another gourami or at least a male or you will be experiencing some serious fighting like my 2 gouramis are doing lately. I am still looking for some where to get rid of one.
Are you sure he also just isn't breathing? I don't know if you know but gouramis are labrinth fish and they breathe from the surface. Some times all my gouramis do is sit near the top for 10 minutes or so and blow bubbles.

You know I am having the same problem with my newly purchased Powder Blue Gourami. It just kinda floats near the top of the tank and doesn't put much effort into eating when it's feeding time. It seems so lackluster when attempting to eat like it can't even get the food into it's mouth. It really is a beautiful fish though.
P.S I have one ghost shrimp in my tank and none of my Mollies or my Gourami pay any attention to it so I'd say go for it.
Definitely can add some shrimp. That would be a great addition!

Hey there.. I have 2 honey sunsets, a male and female....the male would sit there and float under the filter, and I thought he was sick... so I laid off the food for a few days, and he was back to normal...try that....

Ya it really took my gouramis several days to act normal. They liked to float around the surface a lot, especially at night.

yeaps he being acting weird for like 3 days, i just feed the other fissh. andd the ghost shrimp can i add like 3?
I'd say double that to 6, they will do better in larger groups and do not add significantly to the bioload of the tank.

haha horray! my gouramis stop floating to the stop and now it act all normal ty guys for the help. i havnt bought the ghost shrimp yet. hopefully imma buy it today or maybe next time.. and imma buy the ghost shrimp at walmart is tat a good idea ? tat the only place i can find them the nearest place is walmart only. u dink the ghost shrimp over there is sick ?
Walmart is critically notorious for having sick fish, but at the same time I have gotten some very healthy fish from there also. I don't think ghost shrimp show signs of disease as easily as do fish, so it might be hard to tell.

My gouramis or my fish or something did something to one of my Amano shrimp. I put it in there and a day later it was like dead.
Just whatever you do no matter where you buy fish, never dump the water from the store in your tank. Just net the fish and dump it into the tank, trying not to dip the net into the water.

Ghost shrimp are cleaners, htey can help eat food that falls to the bottom.
