i decided on some different smaller fish this time around. i know i said i was going with a bala shark but i have decided on a couple schools of smaller fish for my 55 gallon. here's what i'm getting.
1 Hammer's Cobalt Blue Lobster
3 Boesemani Rainbow's
6 True Rummynose Tetra's
6 Tiger Barb's
1 Japanese Trapdoor Snail

I love your selection, but i would get more from each. They are soo small and you wont be able to see them in your 55 gallon.

I wouldnt do a lobster/crayfish in any tank that isnt species only. They are very good fish catchers.

But its a 55 gallon, and the fish he had chosen are mostly on the top, and the crab is always in the bottom. +They are very fast. But if you dont want to risk anything, dont put the lobster, although it has a very nice color!! :malelovies:

well it's too late for no lobster as it is. the fish and lobster will be here tomorrow.
the fish are all fast swimming and the lobster has small claws when compared to others of its species so i'm not really worried about it catching the fish.
personally the way i see it the lobster will clean up nicely after the fish if they don't eat all the food. i guess it's something i'm willing to risk. i think it will add a nice touch. i couldn't see putting it in a tank all by itself.

good to know. i haven't heard or seen them before. i was looking to go with fish that were brightly colored and would contrast nicely against one another and wouldn't fight.

I spent hours looking at rainbows yesterday on the net. I think they are just gorgeous and have wanted them for a long time. It's really hard to chose them when so many are so pretty.
I will be going with the Metanotaenia group from which your Boesemani's are so if you get more, stick with that family.

I wish i could find a lobster like that in my LFS, they only have the brown ones that look ugly.

Perfect choices mate. A bala shark would have been way too much fish for a 55.

i had a nice 5 inch bala in there with a nice 5 inch tinfoil barb...right up until my mom killed them by mistake.

drag.
looks like i'll be headin to Petco after all.
my fish came in today. 2 of the 3 rainbows were dead on delivery. the other isn't lookin so good. he'll be dead within two hours.
3 of the 6 tetras were dod. put the three good ones in the tank after acclimation and two of them are looking like they will die by the end of the day if they aren't already. only one is swimming properly.
the snail and the lobster are the only ones that have made it at this point.
i did call and got a refund though.

I've seen one eating some kind of cichlid about 4X his size at one of the local petco's. Ordinarily that sort of thing would really tick me off - but I wouldn't have thought the little bugger could have done it either!
