I read somewhere either on this forum or another that mystery snails live a maximum of 1 year in the wild. I have had mine for several months, he has quintupled in size since i've had him. he is a little bigger than a golf ball and i am think he is either getting fat and lazy or just getting old and ready to die. He never seems to fully retract anymore (even if picked up, it's almost like he cant fit completely inside). However if I drop an algae waffer in the tank he seems to perk right up, eat, then return to his lazy self. He will hang out of the shell while not moving as I have seen other snails do near death, as if he doesn't care at all. I would get a friend for him but i dont think they are social? anyone else experience this?
