View Full Version : Pink algae?

I think I might have some pink algae in my tank even though I read that its rare in aquariums. It only forms on the heater. I cleaned it off once but it came back in like a week. I don't mind wiping it off the heater whenever I clean the tank, but I don't know if it will hurt anything or if its a sign of something else wrong with the water. Any thoughts?

is it a freshwater or saltwater aquarium? Do you have any snails?

Freshwater. I had a snail until a couple of days ago when it died. I think my betta may have killed him, but I'm not really sure. The snail seemed normal and as active as ever until I seen him out of his shell and being eaten by the betta. It was pretty gross :/

Does that sound like what you have? Note that the treatment suggested in that link is for pools, it would definitely kill all the fish if you did that in a fish tank.

Yeah, that sounds like what I have. So far I've only seen it on the heater and its not a lot really. It doesn't bother me as long it won't hurt anything.
