tattooed blood parrots nesting?

My two parrots have been clearing out a section in the boat that i have in my tank. they have been digging out the gravel and creating a hole all theway to the bottom of the tank. are they creating a home for themselves, or are they preparing a place for newborns? Can someone help me with this question?

They may spawn but males are infertile. Mine dig holes just because it's fun for them. They will spawn on something upright, but not in a hole so are just doing what cichlids do.....digging.
