Yesterday when i was at my LFS, i saw them selling alot of snails. I wanted to get 1 but i wasnt sure because i had never seen or kept a snail before. I think i read somewere that they eat algae? Do they? I have been looking for an algae eater that can live with my discus fish. So can i put it with them or will they suck onto the discus ? And what do they eat ?

There are many kinds of snails available, and different species have different requirements.

I've become quite found of my Mystery Snails Pomacea bridgesii ...they don't eat plants, although they do enjoy some vegetables such as zucchini...

Mine get a staple diet of algae wafers...and veggies when I have them on hand...

Ill go to the store and ask for the price, if its cheap ill get one and take a picture of it because im pretty sure if i ask the salesman he will just tell me its a snail. lol

Great!!! Do they eat the algae in the tank? If they do, even better!

Yes...they eat some algae...but not all of it...

I still do a lot of scraping...

Some is still good. My discs tank never got any algae. But i think that was because of the plecos which i removed because they kept sucking on the discus.

I have 5 small apple snails. Greatest investment into my tank I made. They keep it clean a whistle! Just remember if you put more than one to leave room at the top in case they breed. They eat my algae, cucumbers, algae wafers, and them little bottom feeder wafers I throw in for my cory cats.
