So I have been thinking about this 10 gallon dwarf shrimp tank and wondering what kind of back ground would make this tank a jewel.

The substrate is Brown in colour on the sides (Fluval Stratus) and black gravel down the middle. Driftwood with java moss and water sprite and wisteria growing at the ends.

The shrimp consist of Red Cherry shrimp, Blueberry shrimp, Sunkissed shrimp and Red Crystal shrimp.

I was leaning towards a dull Black background but wanted to see what others thought.
Feel free to post pictures of your shrimp set-up so I can get some ideas and win a photo of the month award using the ideas. :hmm3grin2orange:

I just tape ordinary white printer paper to the outside back of my large tanks. Of course, this is to make sure I can see the fish against whatever happens to accumulate behind the tank. They don't give a rat's behind what the background looks like.

I use black backgrounds in all my tanks even the shrimp ones. Provides a good contrast with the plants in the tanks. You could always try some shade of blue.

Black has been on top of my list but I've thought of blue and pictured back grounds as well. I'll try some black today and see who the tank looks.

Thanks.

I have only had a couple backgrounds, one came with my first tank. Then I went "backgroundless" and kinda liked it because it wasn't as "busy" looking and I could see my fish. Then, I got a big sheet of a sort of aqua coloured construction paper and put that on.... I liked the simple look of it, and the colour looked sort of natural.

light is on but if you look in the dark/ take a picture you can see it shimmer sometime.

I'm still undecided as to what back ground to keep. Aqua?? Maybe thats the trick. Back to the store. lol.

Get some sheets of colored paper, and just tape it to the back of the tank. Change colors when the mood suits you:p

Just use a piece of black poster board

99 cents at the most and you have a background that lasts until you want it changed, assuming you keep it dry.

Here's a photo with the aqua colour construction paper as my background:

I sprayed the back of my tank with black spray paint but used the cardboard construction paper stuff from the newsagents before hand to find what colour suited me and my fish. The black really makes the fish pop.

Flat black spray paint or flat black poster board. I found some flat back foam sheeting at an art supply store and just taped it to the back of each of my tanks. If it gets dripped on, it doesn't matter becuase it's some kind of poly foam sheeting.

Thanks for all the ideas. I did go to Office Depot yesterday before work and picked up four different coloured sheets of Bristol board. A flat black, an aqua, a light blue, and a shiny black. I'm on afternoons this week so theres not alot of time to try them (leave home 1:00pm, get back home 5:00am). I'll have some time Thursday afternoon to see which one works.

Again thanks for the ideas.thumbs2:
