I have seen a discus that looked exactly like this in a lfs. They were trying to pawn it off as what they called a "Horned Discus" It is a deformity and should have been culled when it was a fry.

I know such defomations with Discus. Normaly they accur when fry isnt brought up properly (lousy water conditions, not enough food etc.)

They didnt look too much different from this photosoped or not photoshoped Angel.

I have since learned this is called a "notched" angelfish which is a deformity and you're right, Cal. It should definitely have been culled.

Oh...the poor thing. I wonder if he is fine with being like that or if he struggles more then the normal ones. I would buy him BUT just because IMO they should have never let him live like that and he now deserves the best life possible...even more then your average Angel.

Good point, Paula. And no, we are not all breeders and are only interested in giving fish a good home mostly. Kind of like not destroying a 3-legged dog. He would still make a good pet.

However, his parents should have been culled or not allowed to spawn. And this person should not have had to pay for this fish, at all. Now that I've had time to read about this deformatily, it appears KOI can also have this.

If the fish isn't bothered by it...I have no issue...animals can manage just fine with certain deformities...

...but if it's genetic, it certainly shouldn't be bred for...
