View Full Version : Wasn't planning on more...(pics)

I wasn't planning on getting back into goldfish, but with so many nice ranchus (the king of goldfish) at the wholesaler today, I got 8. They went into the 40 after I pulled the gravel and put in black sand. The community fish are still in there for now, I have to figure out what I am going to do with them. Here are some pics:

I have a tank filled with goldfish, but i hate them now. They are pigs. And i started hating the way they look. But i gave up on that tank. It has been about a year since i changed the water in that tank. I only add some water when they finish drinking it. But everyone who comes in my house immediatly looks at the goldfish. And they all think my house is a fish store. There are fish and animals everywhere. People used to be scared to come into my house because i had 24 dogs at one point. I only started with 4.

Post some pictures when you put them in the 40 gallon. :) I love looking at other peoples tanks, only if i could get my damn camera to get a good picture!

The last one is in the 40. Here are some more:

Nice! :luxlove:

They're gonna look fantastic in that 180g tank you're gonna be getting them soon! :laugh1blue:

No 180 for them, and the peacocks in the 150 aren't boring enough yet to get evicted. I would want a wide, open-topped tank for them.

...I have mentioned that the goldies are my favourite (several million times), haven't I?

07-18-2007, 02:42 AM
Not that I noticed. What kind of goldfish do you have? Pics?

Very nice fishguy!

GREAT looking goldies you got there!

BTW, is the black sand pretty common, or would one really have to search to find it?

07-18-2007, 03:38 AM
Tsk...I should be mentioning it more often then...:9:

I have 4 in my 55g...

Nothing special...but my favourites nonetheless...

I have a ~ 5 year old calico fantail - or veiltail
~2 year old oranda
and 2 little ones...a black moor and a calico lionhead (both from Walmart of all places)...

You can find black sand lots of places. I use Estes' Marine Sand and it is the same company as most gravel (seems like 90% of LFSs carries Estes' gravel), so even if they don't stock it, you can probably special order it.

What filtration do you have on the 55?

I am not a fan of Goldfish, but your new inhabitants look great in the dark tank. The bright colors just jump into your eyes:thumb:

Rue why isn't the head growth on your oranda very pronounced. Seems like it would be bigger by now. I like your ranchus that black on them.

07-18-2007, 09:22 PM
I'm not sure why the oranda doesn't have a bigger head growth. I'm just assuming that he's a 'mutt'...and not a pure strain...

The little lionhead is cute! Nice topline on him...I don't know that black will stay...but I hope so!

Nice photos - both of you

I have seen feeder fish with small wens (the head growth). It is genetic and as with almost anything genetic, there is variation. I had one that started getting really big. It is better to have one with too smal of a wen than to have one with too large of a wen, where you have to decide what to do about impaired vision, etc.

I don't know why people don't like goldfish. Maybe its because they are more dirty? Maybe because they are so common? I think goldfish have a lot of character. I have an oranda redcap and hes my second favorite fish.

Them being dirty is a big factor. But i hate the way they look.. I hate their fins and the way they swim..

Nice goldfish. Is it 55 Litres? (i'm so new.. I don't understand everything, sorry)..

And do you have a total overview of your aquarium?

07-22-2007, 01:34 PM
55 Gallons or about 200 Litres

07-22-2007, 01:46 PM
I'm sorry. http://forum.credible.nl/images/smilies/bloos.gif Thanks for the information.

07-22-2007, 02:22 PM
Don't be - everyone else on earth uses litres except us!

I don't know if I said it already, but since I get such a good discount at my work, those ranchus were $2.30 a piece.

All got ick after a day or two (too much stress to and at the wholesaler, then being moved to my tank). Coppersafe had no effect. I got Quick Cure yesterday and added some yesterday, some today, and a cup of salt today. It was too late for one, most are improving, some may still go down.

Care.. My father laughed at me when he heared this, so I should have known. ;)

And I'm very, very happy to hear that it's not 55 Litres but 55 G. I hate fishbowles and small aquariums with goldfishes.

I have 2 fishes (1 Ruykin and 1 other (Sorry, I don't know how to say it in English, Dutch is : Telescoopoog sluierstaartvis ;)) with big eyes) in 70 litres but thats a beginners' mistake. A long story ;) I can't give them away, nobody wants them.

Anyone who can admit a mistake can overcome it - you are halfway there already!

I hope I'm a little bit beyond halfway there to be honest. ;)
