View Full Version : tank mates with a Pleco

I have a large-ish (around 20cm) Pleco in my tank and wanted to add some smaller fish with it - namely Cardinal Tetras.

Will these be ok? I have never had any problem with the Plec in the past but wondering if they might go for fish as small as a cardinal?

Plecos will only eat a dead fish. Not live ones.

I'd assumed plecos to be vegetarian, since the feeding threads mostly involve algae and sliced veggies. But I don't have one, so I wouldn't know for sure. *shrugs* Don't take my word on it

some plecos eat meat heavy diets. Basic plecos like BN's need veggies though. BTW most algae wafers have a lot of fish meal in them.

Plecos are generally good tankmates with most fish, I'd be more concerned with how the fish would treat the pleco rather than vice versa. Another concern is if you have a common pleco, he'll need a huge tank as they get humongous.
