Then there is the Rubber Pleco, thats only suppose to get 3-6". Ummm....I think snowball plecos get up to 5 1/2". Thats all I could find, sorry. lol

Tropfish. I had one once. I put it my Frog tank and they killed it. It is called a Bristelnose. I know there is another Pleco called Bristelnose/Bushynose,but the one your thinking of is called Bristelnose.

I ended up getting a Bushynose/Bristelnose about 2-3 weeks ago. I Have the one Tropfish was talking about once, but could not find another so I went with a Busheynose/Bristelnose.

Someone mentioned Zebra Pleco's, I had tried to find one, but I've been told by multiple sources that it's no longer legal to import them, apparently they've become endangered. I did find LFS that imports Royal Pleco's, when they're smaller they look a lot like Zebra Pleco's. My Royal Pleco has been fantastic, they do get up to 15 inches, but I was told it would take upwards of 8 years to get that big. I've had mine for almost a year and it is only 3 inches.

Just to clarify, the Zebra Pleco (Hypancistrus zebra) is not endangered by the aquarium hobby. Its endangered by the polluntants dumped in its rivers by the industrial pollution associated with logging.

i can't find any pleco but the regular ones. none of the stores near me carry anything else. does anyone know if petcos ever get in bristlenose or anything? or if they can even order them in? i would love a zebra, but they are rare and very expensive....i'll just have to paste a pic of one on my tank, lol.

Wow thanks for that link! I'm loving looking at all these different kinds of plecos! How reliable is this site on giving accurate sizes for adult plecos? Can I go out and buy a pleco that says 6" and not find out several months later that its going to be a monster fish? lol. For example this Queen Arabesque Pleco is Gorgeous!!!..but is the information correct that it will only get to 5" at adulthood? Link..... http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/213548/i/7/product.web

Planet catfish list the size at 3.5" Also states that it is definitely not an algae eater, requires very clean water with strong currents

I run the aquatics dept at a petco, and yes we do have them, we dont usually order them unless someone requests them. I order bristle nose and royals all the time. If your local petco doesnt want to, just order it from petco.com they will ship one to your door. bristlenose are about $11 and royals go for $25. We carry clown plecs too. if your local petco doesnt carry them they are being lazy and boring and you can tell them I said so. Zebra's on the other hand would run you $100+ at petco, and im not sure we can even get them anymore.

FYI guys, Busheynose/bristlenose pleco that you call are actually Ancistrus... not exactly the same thing than a pleco. In fact, a pleco can grow HUGE... but Ancistrus keep smaller size. And the busheynose is an Ancistrius (In fact, Ancistrus Sp 3 if my memory is good... you can google for some images...) They are pretty neat (Have one female in my 10g atm and planning to get a male ^_^ soon)...

for more info, have a look at wiki :D

'Pleco' is an invalid term, but its used commonly for any loricariad, not just large ones.
