I'm getting another 5 gallon in a few days, one for my betta (to get him out of his temporary bowl).....and I want to get another hex 5....but I have a problem. When winter comes and I need to get a heater for it, I don't think theres room. The back half of the tank is dedicated to the filter and bio wheel set up. Then the whole front half is dedicated to the light and little feeding hole. How am I going to get a heater in there? I dont exactly know how they set up..so I dunno if this is impossible or just gonna be an issue. I should've thought about that before I bought the tank. Hope it won't cause me to have frozen fish! :help:

Get yourself one that can be submerged then you will only have to make room for the cord.

You should get a heater whether it is winter or not to keep the tank temp. constant. The heater goes into the tank in the water and the cord comes out of the tank and through the tank cover so I'm sure you will have enough space.

I don't need a heater at the moment. The tank is constantly at 78 degree's b/c my bedroom stays so warm in the summer. It would be useless to put one in right now. Probably end of august is when i'd need one cause the nights get a little cooler.

yeah, what they said, but make sure it is infact a submersible heater before you submerge!
Its always a good idea to run a heater, just in case, but if you temp is constant its not a big deal.

I was actually having a problem keeping the temp. Below like 83, but I starting keeping my shade down on my window and keeping the fan on medium and its been at a steady 78 now.

They make small 25 watt heaters that are like a flat pad. You could stick it in the back of your tank, behined the uplift tube. Its always good to keep your heater near your uplift tube anyway, because it helps for better heat distribution.
I had no idea you could get a heater that was not submersible. What do they look like?
Anyway, tetra/tetratec has half size submersible heaters for small tanks. Hydor has heating cables to put in your gravel, unlike other brands these do have a thermostat and can replace the traditional heater.

I dont think betta's need heaters, they can adapt to many temps. All you need to do it give it a water change everyday or every 2 days. But they will die fast for some reason when they are kept in a small tank.
