View Full Version : Fish eggs in a guppy breeding tank? Odd..

I found some long strings of jelly in my guppy breeding tank, right next to the intake of the internal filter. There are several brown dots spaced quite evenly along the strings which look a bit like eggs. Strange thing is, though, that I haven't had anything but guppies in the tank for two years (and the filter's been there since new). For a sense of scale, the picture's taken against the short end of a credit card-sized card.

Can anyone tell me what they are?

Do you have snails?

I agree, they look like the pond snail eggs that show up in my tanks.

Yes, two quite sizable snails. Thank you for satisfying my curiosity!

"Pond" snail eggs? Then, there must be more than one species of snail that's called "pond" snail because, ordinarily, the typical pond snail is a trapdoor snail that is also a livebearer.

My pond snail looks like this and lays eggs in gelatinous blobs just like what is shown on this page.
