I'm getting a marbled salamander larva this weekend. Right now I have a tank for it all set up. It has very fine sand mixed with pebbles for substrate. Is this suitable for a larva?
I know that once the little guy metamorphoses, I need to drain the water and keep the substrate moist and his enclosure humid. I also know I'll need a different substrate than sand at that point. Does anyone have a brand they particularly recommend that they have experience using with amphibians? I'm finding a lot of stuff online for use with reptiles (and suggested to be used for amphibians) but I'm worried they might have some stuff in them that could be absorbed through the skin of a salamander that wouldn't pose a risk to reptiles.
Thanks in advance!
