Frosting glass

If Neon Tetra eggs are photo sensitive, could you use a vinyl frosting on the tank to diffuse the light without cutting out entirely? I would like to try breeding my neons in the future, but I want to do it as naturally as possible, so they aren't stressed. I figure if I cut the light back and densely plant the bottom of the tank, I could leave the parents in the tank.

Any thoughts?

You could just use black cardboard around the sides and an opaque cover. A lot easier to put on and remove
