Hey every one.

I just realised, that South Africa, and maybe Namibia, is some of the only countries in Africa with no indigenous aquarium fish. Am I right in that assumption?

I was trying to figure out a good pond setup without going the goldfish/koi route when it hit me, there might be no other way. Summers the temp go up to almost 50 celcius and winter night time temps go below zero degrees celcius. The water is hard and alkaline. And ponds need to be covered or the fish gets eaten.

Anyone got any idea of a nice setup given the conditions that does not include goldfish/koi?

Thanks!

There is a philander mouthbrooder cichlid that lives in lake Sibaya in ,I believe northeast south africa. Also mozambique mouthbrooders can handle warm water and cooler temps.Plus they come in regular, marbled and pinkish colors.
