Do Betta's come in every color? I saw a gorgeous one at walmart a few minutes ago. Its body was a deep blue almost black and the fins were a bright blue like the color of this face --->:laugh1blue:

It was soooo pretty! I wish I had my new tank, already up and cycled so I could get it!

I've seen them in just about every shade of blue, red , and purple. They are spectacular!

You can get it and put in in a small bowl or something. Betta's dont need much oxygen, just change like a bit of the water everyday until your tank is cycled. I would get it if i were you, someone might get it before you!

Yellow, white, black, pink and about everything in between. Most those you see in the store are about the same tho. I've seen some bright orange ones that were really awesome. I just wished they'd live longer and I might get one.

A little off topic, but my Betta got fin nipped and had his under belly fin chewed off. It's since grown back, but there is no colour in it. It's just a transparent fin. He's still a nice looking fish though :41:

My husbands grandmother had one in those vase things with the plants in it (cruel i know), hers has been alive for like 3 years! I'm always amazed when we go visit to see the little guy still living. Though I always get sad seeing him in there.

Males kept in the proper conditions have lived up to 9 years...

But Salman is right...if you fell in love with a particular fish...you can certainly keep him in the little bowl while you're waiting for your tank to cycle...

...as long as he's not spending his entire life in the little bowl, I have no issues with it...

Since the betta's at Walmart, check to make sure it's healthy.

How can you tell if their healthy or not? They all look sad and cooped up in the cups but thats all I see.

Look at the fish closely against the light...look for any signs of fungus on the body...that seems to be the number one issue with the 'bulk bettas' at discount stores...

...if there's no sign of fungus...look at the fins, make sure they're in good shape...slight mechanical damage will heal quickly...but if it's due to the fungus or other fin rot, that's different...

See if he'll flare against another male beside him...again...that way you can take a good look at his fins and make sure he's not lethargic...

If that all pans out...he should be good to go!

Whats the fungus look like? Is it white or do you just have to look for a different texture on their body? The betta that I was looking at has a piece of its fin that looks all smushed together...I can't tell much though from them being in the cups.

All fish have a slime coat on their body...but you shouldn't see it...

...if you see a sort of 'halo' around the body...that's often the start of a fungus infection...after that you actually see regular-looking fungus growing...

Just do the best you can with the small amount of water in the cup...you can move the water gently (tilt the cup) in order to try and see better...

I got my betta!!! :D I took the advice and just went and got him and a bowl until my tanks cycled and stuff. He's soooooooooo pretty! I'll take a pic once he's in the bowl. Right now he's acclimating to the new water, in the little cup. Put a little bit in every 20 minutes and transfer him in about an hour?

His colors aren't exactly what I thought. They had blue water in last time that made him look darker, but the clear water he's a tad lighter. Still gorgeous and still the same betta though. :luxlove: :luxlove: :luxlove:
