Anyone who has experience with this product?

I bought a Salifert CO2 test to cross-check my pH/KH calculations. It is the kind where you put in drops of the reagent until the colour changes, in this case to blue.

The problem is that I can't get it to turn blue. Even after 10 drops of the second reagent, indicating a CO2 value of 50 ppm it doesn't change to anything but a shade of green. I'm hard pressed to believe that water from my fry tanks, where I'm not adding any CO2 have this kind of a concentration.

Anyone had any troubles like this? Could the test perhaps be too old?

What is the batch number on the reagent? Sometimes they can be translated into an origination date Sailefert tests don't typically have an expiration date - but it is accepted that the reagents are good for a year.

It wouldn't suprise me if the test have been sitting in the shop for several years :/ I'll see if I can find a batch number.

edit: The CO2-1 has a batch number of 1011, the CO2-2 has a batch number of 1167. Any idea how these can be translated to a production date?

Where did you get this test kit and how much was it? I want to get a Co2 test kit or at least a KH one so I can calculate my Co2 from that and my PH.

I got the salifert CO2 kit at an LFS here in Norway. The salifert one is supposed to be easer to read than the Tetra and JBL ones. The Sera test is said to be useless. I paid about $10 for the Salifert.

Though, since the one I got does not seem to work at all, I will just have to trust my pH instruments and calculate it from the pH/KH/CO2 relationship :)
