Tortoise?

Has anyone ever had or currently has a tortoise? I am seriously considering getting either a Greek or Russian tortoise, as they stay fairly small, and doing a planted tank with aloe, lemon balm, and lavender (all tortoise friendly plants). Just wanted to know how their personalities or personal experiences anyone may have had.

I'd love to have a tortoise. I did look into them...and concluded it was just too much work to give them a really good home...

But if you can do it, I think they'd be so interesting!

I have two Sulcata Tortoises and Red Foot Tortoise. They make excellent pets! Ours are very responsive and interactive with us...More so than most reptiles anyway.

...are yours indoors? The more successful set-ups I've seen had them outside for most of the year...

We take ours outside as often as possible in the summer, but they live in a big enclosure in our house most of the time. We have a few Power Sun mercury vapor lamps suspended from the ceiling to provide adequate lighting/UV/heat. When we get our new house in the next year or two, one of our many project will invlove a nice upgrade for the Torts!

Not handy, but I could get one easily enough. If I get a chance tonight, I'll try to take a quick pic of them and their enclosure. It's pretty simple though...I think it's 5' x 6' x 1' tall. Our largest tortoise is about 12" (plastron length), so they still have some room to grow in this enclosure.

I still wouldn't really have room - at least not until all the kids are gone and I have a totally spare spare room...

My Favorite Sea Pet is Tortoise. This Pet is very friendly and Cute. I have 2 Personally 2 Tortoise. I Like him so very much.

I'm pretty sure you have your facts mixed up...no such thing as a sea tortoise. This is kind of a big pet peeve of mine...There are turtles and tortoises (very different animals).


Here are some quick shots of two of our three torts. This is Simon and Rosie. Simon is a Sulcata and Rosie is a Red Foot. We also have a second Sulcata Tortoise, but I have no pics of him/her available at the moment.
