Hey guys :22: i got a empty 55 gal tank with a whisper 400 filtration system a light and a nice stand for $100 now i have gave it some planning and have decided what to do with it. I am planning to put some pepples or rocks on the bottom put some sort of rock in there and some anubis. Im also thinkingof putting a juvenile tiger oscar and black placo in the tank what is your guys thoughts on this tank.

You might want to read this before getting that stock for a 55. It is a bit small for what you are planning.

That's right. A 14-16" Oscar can't turn around in a 55 gallon that's 12" wide. They also redorate a whole tank to their own liking and plants wouldn't be a feature they'd appreciate.

Plants in an Oscar tank need to be very specific...anything that you cannot tie down wont make it. Ferns, anubias and moss typically work out oK. Your 55G is a decent grow out tank for the Oscar and Pleco, however for the two fish you mentioned nothingn short of a 125G tank should be considered. You could get away with a 75G tank for the Oscar and a much smaller tankmate like a convict. Your filter is also probably not going to be adequate for very long I would invest in a 2nd large volume HOB filter or canister.

A 55 would be the bare min i would put an oscar in, and that would also depend on the footprint of the 55gal
