If a tank has enough light to grow dark green algae, is it enough light to grow low light plants? I am running a Marineland LED lightstrip on my 55g and I bought an anubias. My intention was to make my 27g a planted tank (I am running 2 Aqua-Glo bulbs on it, but my large apple snail had the anubias partially striped in an hour. I moved it up to the 55g in hopes of keeping it alive. Any thoughts?

That LED strip may be able to support anubias and java fern...I honestly doubt it would do well with much else. You could always move your applesnail if your other tank is better suited to growing plants. Feeding the apple snail fresh veggies may also curb its need to eat your live plants.

I feed the snail every other day. I tried moving him to the 55g, but the Severum tried to eat him. The snail is worth more than the plant, so I opted to move the plant. It seems ok, but with anubias I imagine it will be a long time before I even saw signs of a problem.
